Twitchy and Awkward <3

These past few days have been BUSYYY.  I got to spend some time in the creative department!! It was really inspiring and I feel that that’s the area I want to end up in.  I met with the head of the department and she showed me what she does–she sets the floorplans for the floorsets that we have four times a year.  She also oversees merchandising, display, etc. It was amazing to see the tiny steps and planning that goes into the floorsets that I help with back at home.  Also, she showed me the trend reports that the trend department puts together, that we base our floorsets off of.  The reports that I spent two hours printing the past week, is what she also uses to set the floorplan, so that was really cool to see as well.  Then the girl who does the CAD  layouts showed me what she does and went into deep detail about what all goes into it.  Then I got to look through all these books and inspiration and make some copies of everything.  It was awesome.  She used to be the regional manager for my store!!! She knew Courtney and Marc, and we talked about that, what I did back home, and she told me to come back and see her befre I leave, so that’s exciting 🙂 I’ve been staying late to work on my Pop Up shop.  I feel like it’ll all work out well, but over half the people in our already small group aren’t helping AT ALLLL. It’s really discouraging.  I’m going into work early tomorrow to do some work at my desk and then i’m just going to drive in the mail van to get furniture from the warehouse, comeback and clean it, then start displaying and merching. OH boyyy lol This weekend we went to dinner at Silk City which was really cool.  Steph sent us out abunch of yummy appetizers, I could hardly eat my meal after! We stayed until 1145 and then had to bolt. I made the LAST subway home.  Ugh i won’t miss that part at all.  I also didn’t have my wallet, so that dampered as well.  yesterday, I spent the day cleaning and doing homework, and working on two projects that are due monday and wednesday.  I’m trying to get as much done as possible so when my mom is here we can just relax.  I was thinking, I’m so sad to leave Philadelphia.  I’ve met so many amazing people that I will truly miss.  It’s been such a great experience: with Home Office, the city, making new friends..for some reason it was so much easier making friends here than it had been at home.  I don’t know if it’s because I knew i had to make friends here, or if I was surrounded by more people like me.  Either way, its been great.  I’m also so stoked to go home.  i miss seeing my sister everyday, and being with Kevin all the time, and talking shit with Addie and Justin, eating with Courtney, shopping and ❤ talks with Katie, and just fun with my friends.  I can’t wait to eat my favorite mexican and go to the flea market.  The day I come home is Lizzy’s birthday and both my parents will be with us 🙂 then its her bday party, PROM!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so stoked for it, hopefully i won’t pass out at 930 since mom and I are leaving at like 4 hahaha I’ll let everyone know how the shop goes ❤

Never have I ever..

Well this was another pretty ace weekend.  Friday, work went pretty well! I was busy all day.  I finally got to wear my contacts because my eye had been bothering me, and then after lunch everyone told me my eye was as red as my top :/ I’m going to go to a doctor and figure out what is going on! It’s so ridiculous and I don’t want to feel frumpy my last two weeks here 😦 We were waiting for Ashley to be able to leave so we could all go to Cantina, this little place with excellent margaritas!!  So Jade, Charlotte, Ashley, Flavia, Jason, and I all met on the shuttle. Once we got to Cantina, we ordered two pitchers of Lime because it was for happy hour 🙂  No one ordred any food, well except Flavia (Duh! ahah <3) and started drinking.  After about two drinks in, we started playing Never Have I Ever, which turned into Has Anyone Else Ever? hahahah it was so much fun.  We learned everyone’s little secrets and everyone laughed so hard all night.  By 9:30 we were sufficiently trashed and headed to the subway.  Jade challenged us, stating “It’s half nine and we are Adults.  Who is ready to take this party to our place?!” So naturally, we headed there.  The ride home was also ridiculous and fun haha Once we got in, two passed out and the remaining of us stayed up and chatted.  After a while Jade and I headed to bed and stayed up with girl talk, ofcourse! We stayed up for a while and finally fell asleep.  It was warm and quiet, and I need noise and cold to sleep.  I ended up ‘riding the porcelain wave’ as Conor so adequately stated it, and didn’t sleep hardly at all, except for the bathroom floor! (Sorry Mom <3) Charlotte found me in the morning hahaha She made me a bowl of cereal with water to recoop.  I finally started feeling better and we all chatted in our pjs and looked awful.  We decided to head home for naps and to reconvene that night for a barbeque! Jade and Charlie walked us all to the subway but I forgot my card, so went back to their place.  We sat around abit longer and went to Sazz Vintage.  It was cool but expensive. I saw a unicorn necklace i wanted but it was $18 and kinda cheap so I didn’t go for it, and because I’m BROKE.  So I went to the subway and made it home around 1230.  I took a cool shower, ate some pierogies, watched sex and the city and then passed out for two hours.  I woke up, got ready, guilted Ashley into coming with me, and headed back to J &C’s place.  Jason was there and Flavia got there right after us.  We found out that the grills that they thought belonged to the building actually belonged to the tenant on the main floor!! haha so we went to the roof to see if there was one up there.  Turns out it wasn’t but it was an awesome view!! We headed back downstairs and Conor showed up! We started cooking and sat around and chatted.  Then jade started reading our fortunes by this palm reading website.  Apparently I will get married three times and have two kids. BLEGH but I’ll have money and die old. I can live with that part haha 🙂 Food was ready at around 9- we had turkety burgers with cheese and onions (the boys had veggie burgers) loads of veggies, potatoes, and corn!!! It was sooo good. Then we had cookies compliments of 543 and lindt truffles via Jason! 🙂 We realized at 1130 that the subways stops running at 12, just before we were going to leave for a bar :/. I got home around 1230 and relaxed.  Today I woke up at noon 🙂 I had some coffee and watched sex and the city.  I started cleaning all the dishes and tried to do my laundry, but had no money left on mylaundry card, and no cash 😦 so that will have to wait.  I worked on some homework and one of lizzy’s birthday presents! Then I made a delicious dinner 🙂 I started working on my powerpoint for school that i’ll have to present..i think itll turn out pretty well? Hopefully!! Its been an excellent, stay in kind of day.  I think I needed it.  I only have one more weekend in the city :/ I’m going to make sure it is one hell of a time 😉

Nacho ate the Lovebirds <3

Today we went on another intern excursion: The Barnes Foundation!  It is the private collection of Mr. Barnes (who’s now deceased) in a building connecting to his home.  It was really cool but really odd simultaneously.  The walls were burlap and the rooms were like an antique shop.  There were so many paintings in each room!!! He had arranged them in a manner that he never told anyone.  What they assumed he did, was to go off of the colors in the paintings and create a cohesive feel to each wall with the paintings as well as found objects, pottery, chests, and chairs.  It was really interesting once they explained his thought process (as they assumed) but prior it didn’t make sense to me…there was Picasso mixed in with pointilism and impressionist art..but whatever floated his boat I suppose.  Its funny, it reminded me of a discussion in my women’s gender studies class with science.  This man was incredibly smart (had his medical degree by the age of 20) and owned his own business.  He sold it right before the Great Depression and used his money to buy artwork.  He had taste obviously, but he taught classes on art and bought paintings for his foundation without any formal training (at least they didn’t mention that).  It was odd to me that people love this foundation and trust his teachings and his opinions of art, when he was actually a chemist.  Interesting how things work…

Regardless it was a very interesting place and quite enjoyable.  We got on the shuttle and headed back to work.  I had an odd lunch…I ate with an URBN male model and he was nice yet somewhat stupid…who would have thought? lol I went back upstairs and got some work done.  I got so caught up in my work that i missed my homework deadline…I had only finished half of it :-/ I’m disappointed but I’m not going to beat myself up over it.  Tomorrow we have another executive lunch, but i’m not sure who its with.  Then we have a meeting about the shop. I think it’s coming along pretty well! I feel much better about it now.  I have another assignment due tonight, more tomorrow and Thursday, then more this weekend haha i’m hoping that this weekend will be really fun.  I want to go out for some drinks, fleamarket or thrift, maybe the pool?! Sounds fabulous so we’ll see what I end up doing. Philadelphia is my oyster 🙂

Flav, i had to use the title.  I started cracking up tonight when it crossed my mind ❤

Wowww so it’s been a long time since I’ve posted!!!! It has been so busy!! Katie came to visit on July 2nd which was a half day at work for me! We went to NY around 3 and arrived at close to 6.  We used the Bolt Bus which was pretty awesome, except for the little girl screaming and kicking my seat directly behind me :/ We went to our hotel which was AMAZINGG! It was a Presidential Boutique style hotel, so everything decorated with presidents portraits on mirrors and everything was silver and purple! I loved it 🙂 We went into Time Square and I was just dazzled! We walked around a bit and then went to Cafeteria for dinner.  It is where the girls always eat in Sex and the City! Apparently it’s really shot in a different place, but still! It was sooo yummy. The best macaroni i’ve ever had! Then we went to Katie’s favorite dessert place for coffee, canolli, and cheesecake 🙂 We went to the hotel, planned our day, and then crashed. We woke up, got ready, grabbed our list and headed out. We stopped at Dunkin to get some coffee and Katie realized she lost her debit card :/ that sucked but we def salvaged the day. We went to some really cool shops and went in different parts of the city–SoHo, East Village, Grenich (sp?) Village, Chinatown, etc. we saw my favorite blogger, Dirty Flaws!!! I was so excited hahaha Anyways,  I got three scarves from AA that I had been wanting, but I got all three for $12 instead of the $100 it would have cost me, so I was elated!! I also bought some cool stuff from street vendors.  My favorite was a designer named Castro, yes, like Fidel.  He hand made all his molds for his jewelry and everything was just amazing. Luckily my favorite item on the table ended up being the cheapest!! its the skull of an animal…i’m thinking in the cat family.  It looks like one of those crazy black panther animals in Avatar, so i was IN LOVE! All time favorite purchase.  We went in All Saints which I would say was my favorite store that we went to.  It was an amazing yet exhausting day.  We had an awesome time 🙂 For the 4th we went to the art museum for the big show and apparently there was performances. I was so stoked to find out that The Roots and The Goo Goo Dolls were playing!!!! hahaha 🙂 it was pretty fun.  The next day we spent at King of Prussia, which I will be happy to never go to again lol. I had an amazing time with her and it was so nice having one of my favorite pieces from home here ❤

That next week flew by because I had Monday off, worked Tues, Wed, and Thursday, and then Kevin was here!!!!! Steph dropped me off at the airport which was amazing and made it much easier.  I waited for Kevin to get off the plane and cried when he hugged me. I was so happy and it was so weird to be around him after not seeing him for six weeks!!! we waited almost an hour for the stupid train, ate Qdobas because we were starving, and made it home.  I didn’t have to work Friday because we had planned to go to NY but I messed up the ticket days so we jsut stayed in Philly.  It was so nice to sleep in and just have the first day together, instead of me rushing to work.  The first weekend we spent most of a day at South Street and found some awesome shops.  One was called Armed and Dangerous which had the most random, awesome things.  The other was Infinite Piercing. They had the most beauftiful ear jewelry EVER! I couldn’t believe it. Naturally, the pair I was really into was $400 :/ whomp whooooomp.  We got our first cheesesteak of the cheesesteak hot spots, Jim’s. It was pretty damn good 🙂 We made dinner and jsut relaxed. Sunday we went to the world premiere of the Cleopatra Exhibit at the Benjamin Franklin Institute. It was expensive but really cool! I love that Kevin and I bond even further when we do things like this. He loves new cultures and museums and learning, and we both have such a good time doing stuff like that together 🙂 I had no idea she was such an amazing woman and total badass haha That took up most of our day!I think we hit up another cheesesteak that weekend too! It was all such a blur haha Through the week I worked on my intern project of creating a Pop Up store! I’m really excited about it and I’m afraid that I’ve assumed too much of a leader or tyrant per usual haha :/ I just want to make sure we do amazing and I know we will.  I’m stoked to see how it turns out! I came home around 6 everyday to Kevin 🙂 He even cleaned my apartment for me! ugh ❤ haha We spent the evenings relaxing and just soaking up time together.  Thursday, Kevin went to the art museum and had a good time, and got a little lost in the city, which is good for him haha Friday, Kevin came to the naval yard to meet me! i showed him around and he met my coworkers and friends 🙂 They all told me today that they thought he was really nice and cool, and that we make a cute couple ❤ DUH!!!! hahaha anyways so we left the naval yard and went to dinner at Continental, a Stephen Starr restaurant! It was so cool. We ate in hanging baskets, like little orbs!! it was awesome.  We ordered octopus, scallops, and kofta as appetizers.  It was my first of all of those thigns and it was all amazing! I was shocked at how much i liked the scallops! I wasn’t stoked on the octopus but I’m glad we tried it.  Then we had lobster mac and cheese, per Jade’s recommendation.  It was my first time having lobster and it was sooo good!! We also ordered desserts, which were also tapas.  We had chocolate jalapeno icecream, truffles, and peanut butter cup. AMAZING! it was a really fun evening 🙂 saturday we slept in again and met flavia for lunch at this yummy, hole-in-the-wall mexican place, and then met the other girls at a vintage warehouse. It was in the Irish ghetto near the hispanic ghetto so we all stayed close hahaha it ended up being pretty cool. The warehouse was sooo hot inside though, and you had to dig through boxes. poor Kevin was a saint and it made my girlfriends LOVE him hahaha we left and Kevin and I went back to south street so he could buy stuff :)we also went into the magic garden, which is this crazy mosaic throughout the city. at the garden it is all found, random objects with clay and stuff. it was so odd yet pretty. after that  we went to a bar b q place for dinner. then we met up with Taylor and her b/f. i liked ray and it was fun just sitting and hanging out with sugar booger!!! (the puppy) haha My eye started messing up again…i think i scratched my cornea so it blowsss.  Sunday we sleptin, relaxed, and I did some homework.  We went to the Mutter Museum. its this crazy medical anamolies musem.  IT WAS ABSUUUURD!!!!! my favorite part was all the human skulls from all over the world and looking at the various shapes, sizes, and how they died.  There was shrunken heads, human leather bound books, 70 lb ovarian cysts, the largest colon in the world, and then lots and lots of fetuses in jars. This is where it got disturbing…it was like morbid curiousity everywhere.  I couldn’t believe all the messed up stuff that people can be born (or still born) with. I can’t imagine ever being a mother and going to that place. People even brought their screaming kids (idiots).  We stayed for three hours!!! Right before we left, I found out i had a project due that night so we missed the intern pool party :/ kevin bought me some groceries to replace what he ate all week haha I thought that was very nice of him. Then we made dinner, watched some Avatar, and I finished my project.  This morning we woke up pretty early and had coffee and breakfast together.  Then we just sat around and cuddled, gross i know haha. I know I’ll see him in three weeks which is half of what we had already endured, but i still got upset when he left.  I didn’t think I would but I saw him grab his bag and lost it. He left and I cuddled with my stuffed animals for a few minutes, then pulled myself together for work! haha It was a good day, but quite busy.  Kevin apparently had a time getting to the airport…he took the wrong express 😦 I hate that train!!! hahaha

So that was a quick overview of the last two weeks. Amazing. Now its time to really focus on my school work, my internship, and my various projects.  I think I can handle it all if i keep my head on straight! I guess we will see!! ❤

Today was a good day 🙂 I woke up extra early to get ready and go to the Free People store way out in Ardmore.  I took the subway toCity Hall and walked to Suburban Station.  Then I caught a train out to Ardmore.  At first I was really irritated that I had to pay for a ticket and spend this much time getting there.  I sat next to a crabby old woman which also made me a little bitter about the trip.  I got off the train and walked in a circle and finally figured out where the store was.  I got there late but they were really welcoming still.  The direct of retail stores for Free People was there and she was talking about her history with the company and her passion for the brands.  She was really cool and nice.  She asked us questions about what we knew about the company and I should have spoken up more but it was one of those things where I felt on the spot and didn’t have shit to say :/ Once she started talked about velocity reports, I was on it.  I mean that was my daily job haha She handed the talk over to Tara, the visual coordinator for FP. She moved up in the company ridiculously fast from a sales associate to what she is now so it gave me hope.  I feel like with how passionate I am and driven to be in this company I can get almost anything I want.  Then we did an activity with velocity reports. I was a leader because I had used them, and taught some girls how to use them and looked for the items and discussed why things were up and down to company.  We all talked about the items as a group and that was about the end of the discussion.  I went straight to Tara and introduced myself and told her I was really interested in her area for a career. I talked to her a little bit and then she gave me her email to ask her any questions or keep in touch.  I shopped around some more and chatted with Jane and some other interns.  I grabbed a few necklaces that I wanted and then went up to the director of retail.  She was really nice and I talked to her for a few minutes and she told me to just meet everyone I could, be passionate, and let people know who I am and what I want.  The more people I know at home office, the easier it would be for me to get where I want to be.  I ended up buying a necklace with turquoise and one with pyrite 🙂 I love new jewels! I rode home with Taylor, Flavia, Caitlin, and this 16 year old intern. Don’t even get me started on that hahha so the ride home was fun and we were all silly.  I got back to work and it turns out it was a free lunch day for the whole company!! So Jess and I went downstairs and loaded up on sodas and lunch 🙂  I went back upstairs and had loads to catch up on. Everything went decently smooth..I had to learn a few new things but I still feel good.  I stayed busy until 530 and headed for home.  On my way to my apartment I was walking with my headphones in. I looked up and there was a man next to me from out of nowhere. I looked up at him and he started talking so I took my earphone out.  He said that I looked really nice, and that he loved my hair (DUH).  He continued to talk to me about my look and then said “Don’t break my heart by telling me you have a boyfriend?” I said yes, going on three years.  He kept walking with me asking about my plans, and we ended up at my building. He asked me to get a friendly drink tomorrow and kept asking for my number and I told him I had plans. Long story short: he finally buzzed off but now he knows where I live.  Hopefully he isn’t insane and doesn’t show up at my building. If he does, I’m telling security and calling the cops. I’m not even going to entertain that bullshit.  I got inside and started cleaning for Katie’s arrival 🙂 I’m so excited for her to get here and go to New York!!!! I’m going to go be a lump now ❤

P.S. It’s my half birthday .

Majestic

Friday was a pretty good day.  I did some work on my board and some of the usual duties before lunch.  I met Flavia for food and met Owen who was really nice.  He works near her area downstairs.  After lunch the day really started to pick up.  I had some POs to work on and followed up some more emails.  At 2:30 Steph and I presented our inspiration to the associate buyer, senior buyer, MA, and another intern.  It went really well, they were interested in what we were saying, taking notes, and asking questions.  They liked the attributes and silhouettes that we chose to discuss and asked about the designers and sources that we used.  Steph W sent an email to us afterwards telling us how great we did, and that she was going to send our presentation to the DMM!!! She’s the head of our whole area, a big deal.  So that was really exciting.  Then Nicole told me of two other projects that she wants me to work on for our area, so that’s pretty cool.  I’m glad that she’s giving me extra things to do! they’re more fun projects that I can feel a little creative haha I started working on my listing for handoff to the photo studio and was told that I now am an intern for sweaters.  The girl that was doing sweaters was promoted to the MA for sweaters and basics, so now I’m taking on the grunt work for sweaters and combining it all.  So we’re going over that stuff tomorrow at work.  I guess I’ll be steadily busy now! I’m excited because sweaters is more fashion foward than basics can be, so there’s some extra stuff involved.  I stayed swamped until it was time to go home! Then I met Ashley and we shopped a little on Walnut.  I got a shirt dress that I had been eyeing for a while, but now it was on sale! And a bright red ring that I’ve been getting lots of compliments on. We sat in Rittenhouse Park for a while which was really night.  Then we went to La Cantina. I had heard alot about this place so I was stoked.  We ordered margaritas, I had blood orange. It was soooo good!! I also ordered some nachos.  After that I had my first Mojito, which was really good too.  Then we headed home.  Ashley had to pee really badly so she went in McDonalds.  While I was waiting for her I was approached by a man that said “Ma’am I’m sure it was a really long day for you, but I just had to come over and tell you how beautiful I think you are.  I’m sure you get that all day, every day” I was taken aback but also flattered. He wasn’t too creepy, but Ashley came out just in time for me to escape haha

I came home and went to bed.  I woke up and got ready for work on Saturday. I had to be there at 11, so I had to leave at 10.  It was a pretty good day.  People said they were sad that I wasn’t coming back, so that was nice at least.  It went by pretty quickly.  I was starving by 330 though and was gettting grouchy haha I got out and Taylor wanted to meet up to go to La Cantina, so I headed that way.  I had the same waiter so he was extra friendly, and suggested another type of drink for us.  It was delicious, tasted like candy! I don’t even know what it was….I also had a burrito.  The girl who brought out our food had just been in Urban so I introduced myself and we chatted for a second. She was really nice 🙂 We finished the pitcher and stumbled out haha We headed down the street and went to Taylor’s apartment to let our food settle and cool off.  Her place is AMAZING!!!! I won’t go into too much detail but the place was beautiful.  The landlord is an interior decorator and her exhusband is a photographer. There was amazing art everywhere, exposed brick, hardwood floors, bright walls, and high ceilings. I was inlove. We hung out and played with sugar for a while 🙂 she told me about this “Love Letter” graffiti work that’s around Philly.  We planned to go later in the month. I’m stoked! Apparently there’s a guy that’s been doing the work on buildings in the range of 20 cross streets and writing love ish letters to a girl and to the city.  It looked pretty cool.  Then we went to Tattooed Mom and had a few drinks.  We met Emily and Basel there.  He was really funny, I’m glad they came! I always get along well with Emily too.  Taylor was cracking us up, I love her lol I’ll spare the details….but I walked to the station with Basel and Emily and headed home around 1230.

I woke up the next day at like 1130 haha AWESOME. I made some food and chilled for a while.  I got ready and met Flavia at the subway station on South street to do some thrifting! We met Taylor and walked around a bit.  We went to one called Retrospect.  I found a lot of stuff I wanted but I would have spend over $100 so I calmed it down.  I bought a book on the history of Dragons and Unicorns, an awesome leather jacket, and a cool Cleopatra type necklace.  I was so stoked. I hadn’t been thrifting in so long! The inscription in the book said “For those who still look for cloven hoofprints in mountain meadows, and for smoke clouds rising from the mouths of caves.” That little line made me fall in love haha  After that we walked to some more shops.  We passed the window of a hair place.  It looked kind of trashy yet kind of awesome.  There was a bike in the window that was of pure rhinestones…glued on.  But still cute so Flavia and I took a quick picture, just for reference.  I know my mother won’t like this, but I assure you this is the only accurate description. This crazy BITCH ran out of the store and said “Whoa that is soooo not cool. I can’t believe you just took pictures of that! That is so rude. i would really appreciate it if you’d delete that off your phone cuz I know you already took it.  If I find it online I’m going to be very mad.” So I replied “Well I wasn’t going to post it til now” And she said “So many of the places on the street have signs to not take pictures it’s so rude you did that.” Naturally I replied,”Yeah but..you don’t even have a sign, and we’re on the street.  You shouldd put up a sign” She said she didn’t have room.  Then take down the trashy lights and stupid kitty lights out of the window, seriously.  “My brother is relatively famous and this was a prop in a movie and I know he’ll be pissed if he finds out.”  COME ON!!!!! Your “relatively famous brother” should be able to fund his brokeass trashy sister.  We were completely flabbergasted that she had the audacity, and stupidity, to yell at us like that.  She had no defense what so ever. It was hilarious yet infuriating. ANYWAYS we then walked to a coffee shop to get delightful herbal teas and to discuss the fiasco we jsut witnessed.  Then Flavia and I went to Whole Foods to stock up on a few things.  I got sushi for lunch for today (yummy!) and some stuff to make mexican 🙂 I finally got home and cooked.  I made a bigger mess and was too tired to clean up :/.

Today, I was stupid busy all day.  I got straight to work, took a 45 minute lunch with Taylor (The sushi was awesome and the wasabi was murder) and worked consistantly until I left at 530. I even felt a little guilty for leaving early, but not quite enough to stay haha It was a good day. Tomorrow all the interns are going to Free People. I don’t love that brand, but I do love their stone jewelry.  I’ve never been to one of their stores so it’ll be cool.  Hopefully tomorrow will go smoothly too.  My trainer wasn’t here today and won’t be tomorrow, and I feel like I’m doing pretty well. I actually know what I’m talking about now 🙂

“For both the god and the unicorn had a business to perform greater than any mere existence in the flesh could explain of provide basis for.”    The Lore of the Unicorn.  Basically unicorns=God. ❤

it’s the glamour that kills

Tuesday was a pretty good day.  I was really tired and Joe was late again with the shuttle. I used to be 15 or 20 minutes early every day and now I walk in right on time, no matter what time I get to the station.  I wasn’t as busy as usual, but it was still a pretty good day.  We had a team meeting and went over some interesting things going on in the LA market.  Its always cool to hear things at this internship that I’ve talked about at school or at the store, it really just connects all the dots.  I did some work at my desk dealing with POs and emailing vendors.  Then it was lunch time and I at with Flavs and Jen.  I was so starved that I barely talked and dismissed my sensible hummus and carrots for a sloppy, delicious cheeseburger.  I kissed my discipline goodbye.  I got back to my desk and did some followup emails.  Then Stephanie took me down to a fit meeting.  This is where we take samples down to production and fit models come in.  They try on our samples and we adjust them and discuss various details.  It was really neat to see a prototype fit and to see the buyers discuss how they need it to fit to obtain certain attributes and stuff.  I ran down to the studio a few times to take stuff for styling and such.  I worked on my inspiration and my swatch boards.  I got home and made dinner, yummy pasta.  Then I watched Drop Dead Diva while working on inspiration.  I love that show.  She’s so upbeat and gorgeous and full figured.  It always makes me feel better haha Then I skyped with Caitlin and kevin a few minutes before bed.  I was exhausted but I knew I wouldn’t get to skype with Kevin for a good few days if I didn’t.  I love skyping with Caitlin, shes so retarded with it and we use all the emoticons for a conversation lol I passed out and slept really well.  Today I caught a train less than 10 minutes early than usual, and got to work 20 minutes early.  It was good because I was there before all the buyers and my trainer, always a good sign.  I followed up on some emails before I went to class.  They’re called Merchandising Development Process or something haha all the Merch Assistants go to get extra training and Steph added me to the list.  We went over Open to Buy sheets and Planning.  I’ve been attending meetings since I started work and this helped tie some things together that I didn’t quite grasp.  It flew by and went pretty well. I have these classes on a different topic every Wednesday.  I think I’ll take away a lot of valuable notes, so that’s awesome.  I got back at 11 and did some work until 1150, because we had another executive lunch with Dick, the owner of UO!! It was really awesome hearing how he started the company with no experience and how the company was on a new frontier.  I won’t bore you with details but I took a bunch more notes to add to my powerpoint for school.  My teacher asked me to present in a brand marketing meeting once I  get back to school in September, so that’s pretty cool. He was really nice and impressionable.  It’s so awesome to know that the leaders of our company care about their employees so much and are so approachable.  After lunch I went back to my desk and caught up on some stuff.  Then I worked on more inspiration.  I started compiling all of my pictures that I had gathered and was pretty pleased.  Stephanie sent me some of her stuff so I spend much of the afternoon compiling it.  The inspiration was for basics and intimates for Spring 2011.   I also pitched some alternative fabrics that we could use, so I’m really excited. I think we will be presenting on Friday.  Steph W was excited, so I hope she likes what we did!!!  I went to a meeting at 5 with the head of buying, so I was slightly nervous.  It went pretty quickly though.  After that I headed home.  I talked to Nate, an intern in graphic design.  He’s so nice! We talked about Philly and some different experiences and stuff.  It’s refreshing how many nice people I’ve met since I’ve been here.  It’s been so much easier to make friends here. I guess because I know I’m alone haha Hopefully I’ll be this way when I get back to Raleigh!  I got a burrito downstairs because it was almost 7 by the time I got home.  I popped in Mama Mia 🙂 and kept working on inspiration.  It’s been a good day.  I love having days that I just feel so inspired in life and in this place.  I miss Raleigh a lot, but I’m still really happy to be here.  Hopefully this weekend has some fun things in store for me.  New York and Katie the weekend after!!!!! 🙂

More Adventurous

Today I was exhausted.  I skyped with Lizzy last night for almost two hours!! It was really nice catching up with her and stuff.  I miss her a lot. I feel like being alone and having some time apart will make living together more fun again 🙂 She took the computer into my room and my eyes started to water haha She said that she’s been having fun hanging out with Kevin and that they were talking about me being gone and that he was really supported and that she realized “Wow, he really does love her” That meant a lot to me. Lizzy hasn’t exactly loved my other boyfriends and it makes me so happy that she likes Kevin so much and that she’s happy were together 🙂 lol It was fun hearing about her escapades too! I tried to go to bed at 1130 and just laid there so I decided to just get up and shower so I didn’t have to in the morning haha I got ready and headed to the subway.  I wasn’t chatty at all, so burnt out.  Work was okay, pretty busy at first and really flew by.  I finished up my duties early so I got to work on my  board some 🙂 At lunch I looked up and saw Courtney in the cafeteria! She’s going to be pretty busy while she’s here so I don’t know if I’ll get to hang out with her :/ but I guess that’s cool. At least I said hey haha Now I’m doing my laundry (thank GODDDDD) and finish cleaning up the apartment 🙂 Right now I’m skype chatting with lizzy and caitlin, and discovering the joy of the emoticons. So far, my favorites are boxing, puking, and the teddy 🙂 Not a too exciting day but I’m glad I’m at least being productive now. I guess I’ll work on some inspiration too!  ❤

Lucky Strike

I think it’s been a few days since i’ve updated..Wednesday was a good day.  We had our first intern executive lunch with the CEO Glen Senk, where there was awesome healthy food.  Glen was sooo nice and down to earth, he related to us really well.  He gave us some inspirational words and some back ground info and opened the floor for us to ask questions.  He answered everything from stuff about the supply chain, to new opportunities to expand, to international, to general questions about him.  I’ll keep it short but like I said he was really nice and relaxed.  He reignited inspiration by telling us about his internship and how he really got the most out of it.  He said that to make it here, you really have to be heard and be noisy, and that wallflowers wouldn’t make it. After his lunch I went to my buyer and asked for some more things to do and to go to more meetings with her.  I went to three with her on Thursday! So it went really well and they day flew by.  After work Ashley and I went to Walnut street and shopped a little and got a burrito.  It was nice to get out, and the weather was amazing!!! Friday was kind of a slow day.  I worked on my boards for meetings that I am now in charge of, and ran to the studio a few times.  Alternative Apparel came to interview my department on their brand and how it works with ours.  We were filmed and interviewed to show at their worldwide conference! So that’s pretty cool.  I ate lunch outside with Steph and Jess which was nice to be outside.  I spent the rest of the day doing work and working on the board.  I left at 5 and met with Ashley to go bowling.  On the train we saw Jade and Charlotte, two british girls doing an internship at HO too.  They were really nice and I invited them to come out with us.  We got to the alley and got a booth.  It was pretty awesome, there were couches in the lounge area with a big bar and booths then the alley behind us.  We ordered blue moons ($3 Happy Hour!!) and waited for Taylor and Flavia.  We had fun talking and getting to know each other better.  We kept asking Jade and Charlotte about words that they use and I was enlightened on the proper use of Wanker and Slag, along with some others 🙂 We finally started bowling and Taylor gave us all funny names.  I was luscious Laura 😉 Charlotte and I did awful, Jade kicked ass, and everyone else did pretty well. They were playing 90s music in there so we were all dancing and being silly, so it was a good time.  We left a little early because it had been a really long week.  When I walked up to my door, my water bottle had leaked and destroyed my camera 😦 I was so upspet but at least the pictures from that night were salvaged. Saturday I went to work and it sucked, I’m not even going to go into detail. After work I met Taylor and Flavia at Tattooed Mom for some food and $1 PBR. It was nice to get out some but I’m glad we went home early.  This morning I woke up around 10 and cleaned up some.  Ashley and I went tot he Fabric Workshop Museum.  It was contemporary art dealing with different fabrics and different dye techniques. It was really awesome. We also went to the little shop next to it, which turned out to be an annex from the FWM.  You design a $100 bill and put it up on the wall as a petition against lead poisoning and for the government to pay to fix it..? That’s what I got from it at least haha so we did that and then headed home.  I locked myself out of my apartment so I went and hung out with Ashley at her place and then finally got back into my room.  I was really happy to get out today because every other Sunday I just locked myself in my room to recover haha.  Tomorrow, is the start of another week.  Hopefully Tomorrow I’ll see Courtney because she’s here on business! We’ll see. ❤

and then the rain came

Yesterday after my post, I went to the grocery store with Ashley and Andy.  We walked out of the building and a few blocks down it started sprinkling.  I thought that perhaps it would subside at that.  At least it’s not hot right? WRONG. It started pouring!!! We were soaked by the time we got inside.  I went to the customer service to check if they would still give us a ride home if we spent $50 combined. Yes, that’s right. If you spend $50 they take you home!!! She looked at me and said “Oh, Girrrl” lol I know. I’m soaked, about that ride? Anyways I did some shopping and got some good fruit…and cookies 🙂 The ride home was good, got home in like two seconds haha Then I got home and started dinner. I had a skype date with Lizzy and Kevin!! They hung out and went to dinner so when they got home, I ate dinner while skyping haha It was so nice to see them, I was really bummed that the picture wasn’t clearer. I miss them so much. I’m so happy that they spend time together.  They are two of the most important people to me (other than mommy and daddy :)) and it makes me so happy that they’re friends.  We spent about two hours chatting and such. Kevin posted on my fb wall that he really like seeing me smile last night and it almost made me cry.  It’s the little things ya know? So after that I passed out with a little Sex and the City. This morning I woke up, late, and had some breakfast and packed my lunch! I got ready pretty quickly and headed off to work.  I was so busy all day, it was my first Monday doing all my tasks.  I took a lunch break and ate with Jen, Taylor, and Caitlin.  Then I went back upstairs and did more work.  I did pretty well, taught myself a few things and just figured stuff out rather than asking.  I went to another meeting and was so lost. I guess I can’t be great at EVERRRYTHING 😉 It really flew by.  I left at around 525 and headed to 543 to volunteer to set up for this awesome fundraiser.  It’s a bunch of amazing chefs, like the top chefs off of tv!!! Even the head judge from the show will be there!!! I helped set up and got one of the chef’s tables ready.  We had to lift and carry crates of glasses and stuff and that kinda sucked.   I toughed it out for an hour and then got the shuttle. Flavia was waiting for it too so we chatted for a bit.  I finally made it home at 730 or so. I cleaned up and cooked more alfredo. DELISH. Now its already past nine so I’ll probably clean up some and plan my outfit, and lay on the bed 🙂
